2023-2024:

  1. Student and Counselor identified Mental Health Initiatives for grades TK-12 ($15,000): Provide financial support for mental health initiatives including:

  • supplying wellness kits to classrooms so that students who need time to emotionally regulate can have the tools to remain in the classroom and still meet their mental health needs

  • stocking Counselor Care Closets with coats, personal hygiene products, and other essential supplies

  • enabling student groups to raise awareness about mental health and wellness among their peers

   2. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) ($50,000): Provide funding to support DBT groups on all 7th-12th grade secondary campuses.

  • DBT skills groups help adolescents learn and develop positive coping strategies as they manage stress and other emotional struggles rather than unhealthy or ineffective behaviors and strategies. Along with participating in a six-week DBT group, students will receive one-on-one support by a trained DBT therapist. TK-6th grade students already receive comprehensive SEL (social-emotional learning) skills lessons in their classrooms while secondary students do not. These skills groups extend mental health and SEL services for 7th-12th grade students, which prepares them for the stresses of adolescence.

2022-2023:

  1. Mindful Schools: Regular class offerings for staff to take a Mindful Schools course which offers strategies that help educators feel more calm, effective, connected, and resilient. It empowers educators to feel nourished and energized to create safe, supportive spaces for the students in the classroom.  (Projected: $25,000)

  2. Restorative Practices: Provide a four-day training from International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) to 15 DJUSD staff (administrators, Campus Safety, and teachers-in-charge) who are not yet trained in Restorative Practices.  Staff will learn how to set high expectations while being supportive and the most effective methods to resolve common conflicts. They will learn to facilitate circles, an essential process for creating a positive learning environment and school culture.   (Projected: $25,000)

  3. Care Solace: Used for 24/7 care coordination connecting students, staff, and families with available verified mental health providers and substance abuse treatment options matched to their needs and regardless of their circumstances.

  4. Second Step SEL Curriculum Expansion Child Protection Unit:  DJUSD will pilot one of the educational units for elementary schools called “child protection”.  This unit is taught by school counselors and teaches students safety issues regarding safety with strangers both in-person and online.  (Projected: $2000)

  5. Student and Counselor identified Mental Health Initiatives: Provide financial support for mental health initiatives such as supplying wellness kits to classrooms so that a student who needs time to emotionally regulate can have the tools to remain in the classroom and still meet their mental health needs, stocking Counselor Care Closets with coats, personal hygiene products, or other essential supplies, and enabling the Davis Senior High Allies for Wellness (student-led group) to cover the cost of a speaker coming to talk about the mental health concerns identified by their peers.  (Projected: $23,000)
